Not as well-known as its “big sister” in the west, the eastern variant of the Westweg takes you deeper into the Black Forest. From Titisee—where the trail splits—the route leads inland toward Basel. Much quieter than the main route, this trail takes you over peaks that are still considered insider tips. One example is the Herzogenhorn—at 1,415 m, the second-highest summit in the entire Black Forest!—from which the Swiss Alps seem almost within reach. The stages, roughly 20 km each with moderate elevation gain, are manageable for most hikers. A rewarding alternative—or a perfect addition!
