Not as well-known as its “big sister” in the west, the eastern variant of the Westweg offers a quieter experience. From Titisee—where the trail splits—the route leads further into the heart of the Black Forest before reaching its final destination in Basel. Much calmer than the main route, this path takes you across peaks that are still considered insider tips. One of them is the Herzogenhorn—at 1,415 m the second-highest summit in the entire Black Forest!—from which the Swiss Alpine range seems almost within reach. With daily stages of around 20 km, usually without too much elevation gain, the hike is very manageable. A rewarding alternative—or addition!
